Beretta eventually settled in Corsica and became closely connected with Ajaccio.
According to reports following his death, he was regarded as an “Ajaccien de cœur” and was involved in the island's cultural life.
He died in Ajaccio on March 23, 2024.
His daughter Barbara Beretta, herself involved in acting and dubbing, confirmed his death to the AFP, with reports stating that he died in his sleep.
His death came only weeks after the passing of another major French dubbing figure, Alain Dorval, the famous French voice of Sylvester Stallone.
The timing made the loss especially poignant for fans of classic Hollywood action cinema.
Two voices that had helped define an era were suddenly gone.
