I was punishing innocent people.
I was abusing infrastructure law.
I was retaliating because of a “personal disagreement.”
That last phrase almost made me laugh.
A personal disagreement was somebody painting their fence the wrong color.
My cottage had been burned to the foundation.
Still, I did not enjoy what was happening inside Sycamore Lakes.
That part matters.
The people living there had not all spent eight months harassing me.
Most barely knew me.
Some had probably believed whatever Karen told them.
A strange retired man outside the subdivision.
Off-grid cottage.
Rain barrels.
Solar batteries.
Dog.
Didn’t attend neighborhood functions.
Easy character to turn into a threat if you controlled the newsletter.
But the water-main problem had existed before I bought the land.
The old easement had expired before Karen ever came to my door.
Sycamore Lakes had enjoyed years of access nobody bothered to formalize.
That was not my fault either.
