Sometimes, despite everything people do, tragedy still happens.
That does not mean the person who tried to help failed.
A Legacy of Love
Jansen's death left an enormous hole in Hayden's life.
But her later reflections show that his presence did not disappear completely.
It survives in memories.
In photographs.
In stories.
In the projects they shared.
And in the relationship between two siblings who grew up together and understood one another in a deeply personal way.
Hayden once described herself as his older sister, someone who believed protecting him was part of her responsibility.
Years later, she was still wrestling with the painful belief that she had somehow failed.
Yet perhaps the most compassionate way to understand her story is to look beyond that guilt.
She loved her brother.
She tried to help him.
She was devastated when she lost him.
And she continued learning how to live with the absence of someone she never expected to lose.
