If clothes don’t dry completely (especially indoors), they can develop a sour or fishy smell.
Where baking soda fits in (and where it doesn’t)
Baking soda helps neutralize odors, but it does NOT:
- kill all bacteria
- replace proper washing
- fix a dirty washing machine
So if clothes still smell, baking soda alone won’t solve it—it’s only a support step.
Simple fix that actually works
- Wash with enough detergent (not too much)
- Add white vinegar in rinse cycle (better odor removal than baking soda alone)
- Don’t overload the machine
- Dry clothes immediately after washing
- Clean your washing machine once a month
