A number can look impressive.
A percentage can sound authoritative.
A statement can seem obvious.
But careful thinking means asking:
**What exactly does this number represent?**
The same principle applies to viral posts.
A claim that “97% of people get this wrong” doesn't tell us whether the claim is true.
A headline saying “Everyone is shocked” doesn't tell us whether everyone is actually shocked.
A mathematical puzzle saying “Only geniuses can solve this” doesn't make the puzzle difficult.
The best response is always the same:
**Read. Think. Check.**
## Can You Beat the Trap?
Before looking for the answer, try solving the puzzle yourself.
Take your time.
Don't choose “50 years” merely because it's the number your brain produces first.
Ask what the question is actually requesting.
If the problem involves a person's age and a date, determine whether you're being asked for their age at that date or the number of years separating two dates.
