S — Speech: Is speech suddenly slurred, confused, or difficult to understand?
T — Time: Call emergency medical services immediately if these symptoms occur.
Other possible stroke symptoms include sudden trouble seeing, sudden dizziness or loss of balance, sudden confusion, or a sudden severe headache with no known cause.
Even if symptoms disappear after a short time, urgent medical evaluation may still be necessary because temporary symptoms can sometimes indicate a transient ischemic attack, commonly called a TIA.
Time matters.
Severe Headaches Can Require Attention
Headaches are incredibly common.
Most are not caused by dangerous conditions.
However, a headache that is sudden and extremely severe—particularly one described as the worst headache someone has ever experienced—can require emergency evaluation.
A severe headache accompanied by neurological changes, confusion, fainting, weakness, difficulty speaking, vision changes, fever with a stiff neck, or repeated vomiting should also be taken seriously.
Again, the goal is not to frighten people.
