A strange object must be priceless.
A hidden detail must reveal a shocking secret.
An old photograph must contain something unbelievable.
But real life is usually more complicated.
Sometimes an unusual detail has a completely ordinary explanation.
And that's okay.
The value of a discovery isn't always determined by how shocking the explanation is.
Sometimes the most rewarding part is simply realizing that you were able to notice something you had previously overlooked.
A Reminder to Slow Down
Modern life gives us very few opportunities to slow down.
We move quickly from one task to another.
We scroll through hundreds of images.
We read headlines in seconds.
We answer messages while thinking about something else.
Our attention is constantly being divided.
As a result, we sometimes experience the world without truly observing it.
That afternoon reminded me of the value of slowing down.
For a few minutes, there was nowhere else I needed to be.
