How to Keep Grout Cleaner for Longer
Once the grout has been cleaned, a few simple habits can help slow the return of dark stains.
Clean Up Spills Quickly
Oil, sauces, drinks, muddy water, and other spills can penetrate porous grout if they remain on the floor for too long. Wiping up spills promptly helps prevent them from becoming deeply embedded stains.
Vacuum or Sweep Before Mopping
Mopping a dusty floor can push wet dirt directly into the grout lines. First, use a vacuum cleaner or broom to remove loose dust, hair, crumbs, and debris. Then mop the floor.
Change Dirty Mop Water
When mop water becomes visibly dirty, continuing to use it can spread dirt across the floor and into the grout. Changing the water during cleaning can make a noticeable difference, especially on large or heavily used floors.
Avoid Leaving the Floor Excessively Wet
Using too much water can allow dirty liquid to settle into the grout. A damp mop is generally sufficient for routine cleaning. Afterward, allow the area to dry properly.
