Baking soda is mildly abrasive, making it useful for loosening surface dirt without requiring extremely aggressive scrubbing. When mixed with water, it forms a paste that stays on the grout long enough to soften accumulated dirt.
To use this method:
-
Put a small amount of baking soda in a bowl.
-
Gradually add water until you obtain a thick, creamy paste.
-
Apply the mixture directly to the grout using an old toothbrush or a small grout brush.
-
Leave it for 5–10 minutes.
-
Gently but thoroughly scrub the grout.
-
Wipe away the loosened dirt and rinse the area with clean water.
If the grout is particularly dirty, it is worth repeating the process rather than applying excessive pressure during the first cleaning.
