Alan's death marks the loss of a significant member of one of popular music's most enduring families.
It is also the end of a remarkable personal story — one that began with a group of brothers singing together in Utah and eventually took them to television studios, concert halls and stages around the world.
A Family That Began With Four Brothers
Alan Osmond was born on June 22, 1949, in Ogden, Utah.
He was the eldest of the performing Osmond brothers and grew up in a large Mormon family. His parents, George and Olive Osmond, raised their children with a strong emphasis on faith, family and music.
The Osmond family's musical journey began long before the brothers became international stars.
Alan, along with brothers Wayne, Merrill and Jay, began performing together as a barbershop quartet when they were children. Their early performances were far removed from the glamorous world of 1970s pop music. They were young boys singing together, developing the harmony and stage discipline that would eventually become their trademark.
